Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reviews road improvement works in Mumbai
Mumbai will be pothole-free after all the works are completed in two years- Mumbai Municipal Corporation believes
Mumbai, The. 23: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde today reviewed the works being carried out for construction of good quality roads in the Metropolitan City of Mumbai and the improvements being made by cement concretization of roads.
He instructed the municipal administration to ensure that the potholes on the roads due to heavy rains are filled up at the earliest and the traffic remains smooth and safe.
Meanwhile, cement concretisation of roads in Mumbai has been speeded up and in the next two years, all the works will be completed and Mumbai will be free of potholes, on behalf of the municipal administration. Iqbal Singh Chahal expressed this while giving information on the occasion.
On this occasion, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Shri. P. Velrasu, Deputy Commissioner (Infrastructure) Shri. Ulhas Mahale and officials concerned were present.
This year i.e. in 2022-2023, cement concretization work of 236.58 length of roads is being done. It is costing Rs 2,200 crore. While another 400 kilometres of road work is proposed this year. Not only this, the municipal administration also intends to take up cement concretization of the remaining 423.51 kilometres of roads next year i.e. in 2023-2024. The commissioner stated in the meeting that the municipal administration is confident that the roads in Mumbai will be free of potholes in the next two years.
From now on, while concretising the roads, water drain pits will also be constructed at certain distances so that there is no flood situation during monsoon. The commissioner said conditions for the same have also been included in the new tenders for cement concretisation roads.
The municipal administration has incorporated innovative and important conditions in the new tenders while carrying out cement concretisation of roads. Various measures are taken by the corporation in view of heavy rains and the possibility of rain water logging especially in low lying areas. As a part of this, during the cement concretization of roads, soak pits will also be created at certain distances, so that the water can be drained easily through it and flood water does not come on to the road. A condition in this regard has also been included in the tenders for new works. Similarly, THE CCTV cameras installed on the roads will also be connected to the emergency management cell of the corporation and the office of the chief engineer (roads), deputy chief engineer (roads). So the administration will be able to keep a direct watch on these roads.
In Mumbai, a total of Rs 4,900 crore will have to be spent on cement concretization of 400 kilometres of roads this year , 800 crore for 50 kilometres of cement concretization in the city division, Rs 600 crore for 75 kilometres of cement concretization in the eastern suburbs and Rs 3,500 crore for 275 kilometres of cement concretization in the western suburbs. In this, roads with a width of less than 13.40 meters will be made in a cement concretization passage (200 mm thick concrete layer road). So roads with a width of more than 13.40 meters (280 mm thick concrete layer) will be improved into cement concretization.
